Understanding Trauma & the Mind–Body Connection

Trauma, stress, life challenges, and relationship difficulties can influence both emotional and physical wellbeing. They may affect how we relate to others, how we see ourselves, how we regulate emotions, and how we respond to conflict, uncertainty, and change.

For many individuals and couples, developing greater self-awareness, strengthening emotional regulation, understanding relationship patterns, and building healthier ways of connecting can be important steps toward improved wellbeing and quality of life.

Leigh Milne is a Registered Psychologist and Couples Therapist providing psychology and relationship therapy services throughout the South West of Western Australia.

Services are available both in person and via Telehealth, providing flexible options for individuals and couples seeking support.

Individual Psychology Services

Psychology services may assist individuals experiencing:

  • anxiety and chronic stress

  • trauma and PTSD

  • complex and developmental trauma

  • emotional overwhelm

  • depression and low mood

  • grief and loss

  • self-esteem difficulties

  • relationship concerns

  • life transitions and adjustment difficulties

  • personal growth and self-development

Leigh integrates evidence-based, trauma-informed, attachment-informed, and nervous system-focused approaches tailored to each individual's needs and goals.

Couples Therapy Services

Leigh has a particular interest in working with couples impacted by attachment wounds, developmental trauma, nervous system dysregulation, and recurring relationship conflict.

Couples may seek support for:

  • communication difficulties

  • recurring arguments and conflict cycles

  • emotional disconnection

  • trust and intimacy concerns

  • attachment insecurity

  • anxiety and relationship distress

  • the pursuer–withdrawer (maximiser–minimiser) dynamic

  • neurodivergent relationship challenges (ADHD and Autism)

  • emotional regulation difficulties

  • parenting and family stress

  • betrayal, hurt, and relationship repair

  • consent, boundaries, and emotional safety

  • navigating significant life transitions together

Leigh's approach to couples therapy is informed by IMAGO Relationship Therapy, attachment theory, Schema Therapy, Resource Therapy (parts work), nervous system regulation, and trauma-informed relationship approaches.

The focus is not on identifying a "problem partner," but on helping couples understand the patterns, unmet needs, attachment dynamics, and protective responses that may be contributing to relationship distress.

Through greater awareness, communication, and emotional safety, couples can begin developing more effective ways of relating to one another.

Accessing Support

Whether through individual psychology or couples therapy, the goal is to support individuals and couples to better understand themselves, strengthen emotional wellbeing, develop practical skills, and build healthier relationships.

Services are available face-to-face and online for people throughout Western Australia and beyond.
