Welcome to the Quantum Couple & Wellness Blog, where we explore evidence-informed psychology alongside conversations with professionals working in health, wellbeing, relationships, and personal growth.
As part of the Quantum Couple & Wellness Podcast, I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Dr Purity Carr, a Western Australian medical practitioner with a particular interest in women's health, menopause, lifestyle medicine, and preventative healthcare.
Our conversation explored the challenges many women experience during perimenopause and menopause, the importance of informed healthcare, and the role that lifestyle, community support, and personalised medical care can play in supporting wellbeing during midlife.
Meet Dr Purity Carr
Dr Purity Carr is a medical doctor with more than two decades of experience in general practice.
She is the founder of:
Purity Health
The Menopause Momentum Network
The 10:10 Menopause Reset
Her work focuses on supporting women through perimenopause and menopause using a combination of medical assessment, lifestyle interventions, education, and community support.
Understanding Perimenopause and Menopause
Perimenopause and menopause can affect women in different ways.
Commonly reported experiences include:
changes in sleep
fluctuations in mood
hot flushes
fatigue
brain fog
changes in weight
reduced energy
changes in confidence and wellbeing
While these experiences are common, every woman's journey is unique.
One of the themes discussed throughout the interview was the importance of helping women feel informed, heard, and supported when navigating these changes.
The 10:10 Menopause Reset
Dr Purity explained that the 10:10 Menopause Reset was developed to provide women with a structured program that combines education, medical oversight, lifestyle strategies, and peer support.
According to Dr Purity, the program is designed to help participants better understand factors that may influence wellbeing during menopause and to explore practical lifestyle approaches that support overall health.
Lifestyle Factors Discussed
During our conversation, Dr Purity highlighted several lifestyle areas that are commonly addressed within the program.
Nutrition
Participants are encouraged to explore nutrition approaches that support their individual health needs and goals.
Movement
Physical activity, strength training, cardiovascular fitness, and mobility were discussed as important contributors to overall health and wellbeing.
Sleep
Sleep quality is often a significant concern during menopause, and improving sleep hygiene may support overall wellbeing.
Stress Management
Strategies such as relaxation, mindfulness, and self-care practices may help individuals manage stress more effectively.
Hydration and Daily Health Habits
Attention is also given to general health practices that support physical wellbeing.
The Importance of Community Support
One of the strongest themes throughout the interview was the value of connection.
Many women report feeling isolated during perimenopause and menopause.
Dr Purity described how community support can provide opportunities for:
shared experiences
encouragement
accountability
education
social connection
Research consistently suggests that social support can contribute positively to emotional wellbeing and quality of life.
Menopause and Mental Wellbeing
Our discussion also explored the relationship between menopause and emotional wellbeing.
Changes associated with menopause can sometimes coincide with:
increased stress
life transitions
caregiving responsibilities
relationship changes
workplace pressures
For some women, these experiences may influence mood, emotional wellbeing, and overall quality of life.
This highlights the importance of a whole-person approach that considers both physical and psychological factors.
An Individualised Approach
One message that emerged strongly from our conversation was that there is no single approach that suits every woman.
What works well for one person may not be appropriate for another.
Dr Purity emphasised the importance of:
informed decision-making
personalised healthcare
ongoing medical review
realistic expectations
self-compassion
